Kerala Blasters have signed the 23-year-old midfielder Rohit Kumar from Hyderabad FC. The transfer was earlier reported at the end of January. For the Blasters fans, he doesn’t come as a surprise as the team already has players in that position. Hyderabad, however, is rebuilding after a poor season and therefore released the player earlier this month.
Born in Delhi, Rohit Kumar represented and captained Delhi in the B.C. Roy Trophy in 2013. Later he joined the DSK Shivajians academy and was called to their senior side in 2016 for the Durand Cup. He scored his first goal for the side, nine minutes into his debut game against Sporting Goa. The team went on to win the game 2-1. In the very next game, he scored a brace as the team again went on to win by 2-1. He then made his debut for the team in the I league in January 2017. Later in 2017, he signed for Pune City FC in ISL and made his debut on 22 November. In the very next match against ATK, he scored his first goal helping the team to win by 4-1. His second goal came against the same opposition in the 77th minute in the home match.
Rohit Kumar later joined Hyderabad FC for the 2019 season as Pune City FC became defunct. He played 9 matches for the team and had only a goal and an assist to his name. In midfield, he had a passing accuracy of 72%.
“Joining Kerala Blasters was an easy decision for me since I’ve always wanted to play for the club. I hope to improve myself as a player every day, with the help of my coaches, teammates, management and specially the fans, to contribute to the vision of the club. With the support of my new squad, I wish to lift trophies for Kerala Blasters in the near future, because this club truly deserves it.”, says Rohit Kumar, who can’t wait to get started on his new journey.
“It is my pleasure to welcome Rohit to Kerala Blasters. He is yet another quality addition to our mid-field. I hope he explores all his potential with the team and we are ready to support him in the best possible manner.” says Karolis Skinkys, Sporting Director-Kerala Blasters.
From his previous performances, we can see that this Rohit Kumar surely has an eye for goals. However, with players already present in the midfield for the club he will have to work extra hard. If he can improve and impress Kibu he can have his place in the team. He can be an important player providing assists and goals thus, improving the team’s performance.
