Romeo Fernandes –
The FC Goa winger signed for Brazilian club Athletico Paraneanse becoming the first Indian to play in South America. Romeo was sent on loan to the club from Dempo in 2015. He failed to get game time and made only one appearance off the bench for 21 minutes in the Parana State League. The deal got ended prematurely, and he returned after just three months. Now he has made his way back to the first team of FC Goa after shining with the reserves last season.
Sahil Tavora –
Another Goan who had played abroad was current Hyderabad FC defender Sahil Tavora. After playing with FC Goa and Mumbai City FC, he joined the Portuguese fourth division side, CD Alvarenga. He started in most of the matches of the season and also scored a goal for his club. Though he returned after a single season, he got more game time than what he had been getting before.
Anupam Sarkar –
Anupam Sarkar was another Pune City FC player who was loaned out to a foreign club. He was signed by a Georgian second division side FC Adeli Batumi in 2015, where he made a total of 4 appearances, including a start. He has now retired from professional football.
Deependra Singh Negi –
The former India U17 captain had trials with La Liga club Espanyol before signing for second-division Spanish side CF Reus Deportui in the 2016-17 season. After that season, he returned to India to join Kerala Blasters, where he scored on his ISL debut. CF Reus is defunct now. The midfielder currently plays for Hyderabad FC.
Luv Kapoor –
Luv Kapoor signed for Spanish club Palamos CF, which plays in the Spanish fourth division ‘Tercera Division’. The midfielder made his debut for the club in May 2018, becoming the first Indian to play in that level. Ishan Pandita made his Tercera division debut with CF Pobla de Mafumet a year later.
