Liverpool recently won the Premier League for the first time ever, a title that had eluded them for so long. They came ever so close to winning it in 2013-14 but ‘THE STEVEN GERRARD SLIP’ is a tale for the ages. The celebrations have begun at Liverpool and we have something in store for the Liverpool fans in India.
Here’s presenting you the former Liverpool players who have played in the Indian Super League:
LUIS GARCIA
A Champions League winner and arguably the biggest name from Liverpool to have played in the ISL, Luis Garcia was signed as a marquee player by ATK in the very first season of the ISL. Leading the team from the front, Garcia led the Kolkata based team to their very first Indian Super League title. He played a total of 14 matches for them and scored 2 goals in the process. But his contribution to the team was much beyond his goals. Such was the craze of the man that the Salt Lake Stadium was full for every home game. The attendances recorded that season at the Salt Lake have never been matched ever after, even after 5 more seasons.
Luis Garcia had a stellar career before coming to the ISL. He played for some of the biggest clubs in Europe. Apart from playing 77 matches for Liverpool, he also played for the likes of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. Before coming to India, he was playing for Club Universidad Nacional in Mexico. After playing for a season in the ISL, he joined A-League club Central Coast Mariners on a one year contract and eventually retired from the game after that season.
In a career spanning almost 20 seasons, he played a total of 553 games, scoring 139 goals in the process, which included goals in the Champions League as well as the FIFA Club World Cup.
