The 2017-18 season was dismal for the Islanders as they finished 7th. The team failed to qualify for the playoffs as Alexandre Guimarães ended his tenure at Mumbai at a low.

The top scorer for Mumbai City that season was Everton Santos. The Brazilian, who played for PSG before in his career, had a decent stint at Mumbai. He scored 7 goals for the team and was critical for the team’s limited performance. He was followed by Balwant Singh, who scored 6 goals.

Everton went on to play for ATK the next season before heading back to Brazil to play for Figueirense.

2018/19- Moudou Sougou

Moudou Sougou created history at Mumbai City FC in 2018-19. He scored 12 goals for the Islanders and finished just behind Ferran Corominas in the Golden Boot race. In this process, he also became the club’s highest ever goalscorer.

The most memorable memory of Sougou is definitely the match against Kerala Blasters. The Senegalese was in a destructive mood as he scored four goals against Kerala Blasters as Mumbai won 6-1. He became the first player to score four goals in a match in the ISL.

Sougou’s goalscoring ability had a big role in Mumbai City having a good season where they reached the semi-final, only to lose to FC Goa.

2019/20- Amine Chermiti

Amine Chermiti came to the club with an interesting career behind him. The Tunisian was an African Champions League winner and also played for Bundesliga outfit Hertha Berlin. He played in the Asian Champions League and for the Tunisian national team as well.

However he couldn’t emulate the same success at Mumbai City, for one reason or another. He scored 6 goals in 16 matches, which ultimately wasn’t enough for the team to qualify for the playoffs. He missed quite a few chances which costed the team as they failed to build onto the momentum of the previous season.

With the City Football Group coming in, we could see some positives changes in the team. One specific rumoured signing, Adam Le Fondre, could be an addition to this list if he could repeat his past successful performances for Mumbai, and gift them their first title.
