Mumbai City FC has reached an agreement with Odisha FC to extend Vinit Rai‘s loan deal for one more year, IFTWC can confirm.
Vinit Rai joined the Islanders on loan during the winter transfer window and subsequently made 14 appearances for Des Buckingham’s team. Furthermore, he featured in five of the AFC Champions League games, starting one and came off the bench in four.
Before joining Dempo in the I-League, the former captain of Odisha progressed through the ranks of the Tata Football Academy. Kerala Blasters recognized his talent, and they signed up the then 18-year-old. Before joining Delhi Dynamos, he played two seasons with Kerala, which included a loan to Minerva Punjab. He successfully established himself as a key member of the squad, subsequently leading Odisha and making 70 appearances for them.
Yesterday, Odisha FC had announced the signing of Raynier Fernandes on a loan deal from Mumbai. With Raynier and Vinit swapping sides on loan deals, both the sides appear to have got a good deal for themselves. Mumbai, with injuries plaguing Rowlin Borges, needed a reliable Indian option at the center of the park and Vinit fits the bill perfectly.
In the case of Odisha, players like Thoiba Singh and recent arrival Osama Malik will bolster their midfield in Vinit’s absence, and Raynier Fernandes will provide them with a very dependable alternative in the attacking-midfield position.
