Mumbai City FC has completed the signing of Brazilian forward Ygor Catatau on a one-year-loan deal from Madureira, IFTWC can confirm.

Mumbai was also offered Brazilian striker Tiago Bezerra, who was playing in Qatar, but the deal never came together. Bezerra has now joined Neftchi Baku in Azerbaijan.

After signing for Vasco de Gama in 2018, Ygor Catatau was loaned out to Madureira the following year. He had the option to renew at Vasco after his loan spell ended, but the striker moved to Serie B club EC Vitoria instead. The 26-year-old appeared in 27 matches, 10 of them as a starter, and scored three goals and provided one assist.

His contract with the Salavdor-based club ran until November 30, meaning when Serie B ends. However, the player terminated his contract with the club in August. Catatau has decided not to return to Madureira and is now on his way to India to join the defending champions. The striker’s move to India will be his first experience away from Brazil, where he has spent the entirety of his professional career.

Catatau’s signing is Mumbai’s second loan signing this season from Serie B. They had earlier announced the loan signing of Vila Nova’s Cassio Gabriel. The team has assembled a formidable frontline led by last season’s golden boot winner Igor Angulo along with the likes of Ygor Catatau and Brad Inman. Mumbai appears intent on defending the ISL trophy from last season and making their mark in the upcoming AFC Champions League.
