Mumbai City FC have completed the signing of Naorem Tondomba from East Bengal on a long term contract.
The 21 years old Manipuri lad plays as Defensive midfielder. Tondomba was playing for East Bengal until last season. He had signed a longterm deal with the the Kolkata Giants in 2018-19 season. Tondomba made 9 appearances for the red and gold brigade in the I League and Durand Cup combined.
Tondomba started his professional career at NEROCA. He’s a product of their youth academy. He made an impressive start to his career which caught the eyes of East Bengal scouts led by head coach Alejandro Menendez. He also won the best midfielder award in the 2019 CC meet.
Tondomba had signed a longterm deal with the Kolkata Giants after he made his big move from NEROCA. But after the appointment of Robbie Fowler, East Bengal made it clear that around 9 players were not in the plans of Robbie Fowler. Tondomba was one of them. Now, he’s agreed terms with Mumbai City FC.
Mumbai City FC have one of the best midfielders in the league. They have brought in players like Ahmed Jahouh, Hugo Boumous and Hernan Santana. The likes of Rowlin Borges, Raynier Fernandes and Sourav Das have been performing well for the Islanders. It will be difficult for Tondomba to get proper playing time initially. A loan move to an I League club might be on the cards.
