The reigning champions, Mumbai City FC, now stand sixth in the points table with 18 points from 12 matches. The champions have been finding it a bit hard to turn things around for themselves. However, with the vision of doing so, and as preparations for the AFC Champions League, Mumbai City FC have made some reinforcements in the squad, bringing in the likes of Diego Mauricio and Lallianzuala Chhangte.

Chhangte’s deal took place on the deadline day, 31st January 2022, and the club and the player couldn’t be any happier pulling this deal through. In his first club interview with Mumbai City FC, Chhangte said,

“My heart is filled with joy to join the champions of India finally. And I hope I can give my very best here. I’m looking forward to being with the team.”

Chhangte was a vital element of the Chennaiyin FC side; Božidar Bandović himself claimed so. Nevertheless, Chhangte wished to take his career forward, not in eye with the views Chennaiyin had. He said, “Mumbai City is one of the clubs that I’ve always wanted to play for. They have been doing really well for four to five years, and they’re the reigning champions. So, for my further development also, I think it was the best option for me. So, that makes it easy.”

Des Buckingham had a crucial role in roping Chhangte in for the Mumbai outfit. Chhangte said, “Yes, I had a chat, a good conversation (with Des Buckingham) before I came here, and, to be honest, he convinced me to come here. He told me about Mumbai City FC’s plans in the short term and in the long term. So, for me, to develop further develop in my career, I think this is the best option, and I hope I can fulfil my dreams here.”

Chhangte spoke about his aim in Mumbai City, and he said, “I want to achieve all my dreams, individually and collectively, like individual trophies and most importantly, collectively. So, I will try to be my best for the team.”

With a heart-warming message to the fans, “Of course, we are going to miss them. And Mumbai City FC has got the most amazing fans around the country. Every time I’ve been to the pitch, to Mumbai to play, I have seen them, and their support has been massive. We are going to miss you, though we will give out best. Keep supporting from your home with your loved ones, and I will see you soon,” concluded Chhangte.
