Nerijus Valskis : Chennaiyin FC 》Jamshedpur FC
Nerijus Valskis who literally took the league by storm last season has officially made a move to Jamshedpur FC. The Lithuanian striker won the golden boot last season scoring 15 goals in 20 games with 6 assists to his name. He finished the top scorer chart alongside Bartholomew Ogbeche of Kerala Blasters FC and Roy Krishna of ATK Mohun Bagan FC (then known as ATK FC).
Leading up to the move, Coach Owen Coyle joined his former side, Chennaiyin FC mid season and he totally revamped the whole team’s performance leading them to the Final of the championship last season. His record in the league earned him a move to Jamshedpur earlier this week and he would definitely love to retain some of the key members of previous side.
Nerijus Valskis was an absolute fan favorite and was topping the coach’s shortlist for recruitment purposes at his new club. Soon after Jamshedpur FC announced the signing of Jackichand Singh, the announcement of Valskis was bound to be around the corner as his links with Jamshedpur FC were no secret.
In his interview for the Jamshedpur FC media, Nerijus Valskis had to say “I am thrilled to be playing for a football-crazy city like Jamshedpur. The city has a huge legacy in football, and I want to help add silverware by winning the coveted ISL trophy for the fans. It is unfinished business for me, and I hope to work hard towards contributing and making Jamshedpur FC Champion of India! This club has huge ambition, and I can’t wait to kick-start an exciting future.”
Adding up to it the New Gaffer , Owen Coyle said,Nerka is a seasoned striker with goalscoring prowess and hunger to attack the opposition at all times. His link-up play, agility, and finishing is of the highest order, probably the best in the league, and he was the Golden Boot winner for a reason. His performances last season were so powerful and lethal, that his mere presence in the dressing room and the pitch automatically lifted everyone around him. I look forward to working with him and have another successful season.”
Valskis reverted back and quoted the following words about Owen Coyle, “We worked wonders as he lifted and motivated a squad that was struggling, resulting in a turnaround that helped us reach the final. I am looking forward to achieving more success with him.”
The Lithuanian goalpoacher will be a huge addition to the setup of the “Men of steel” as the team will be eying the Playoff spot being a better iteration of their prior avatar. Valskis donning the traditional red and blue of the Jamshedpur based club might help the club secure a higher spot in the league standings.
