A few days back, the Marina Machans pulled off a blinder against FC Goa and held them for a 2-2 Draw at the Bambolim, Goa. Now, the confident “Men in Blue” are all set to disrupt the momentum of the Highlanders, their next opponent.
NorthEast United is recently witnessing an upsurge since the appointment of Khalid Jamil as their Interim Head Coach for this season. They are currently seated in the fifth position with 26 points and are considered as the top favourites to reach the playoffs of this season.
Ahead of their battle against the NEUFC, the Hungarian tactician Csaba Laszlo met the media in a virtual press conference and gave his insights about his team’s preparation. When asked about the lack of opportunities given to the young players in the Chennaiyin camp, He said, “This is not just about going to the playoffs but it is also about taking good results. I am sure that we will do everything to win in the next two games”
“Yes, we didn’t give enough opportunities for the young boys but the time will come for these youngsters to play. We will be having a tough game against NorthEast, so we will have to see whether they get their opportunity or not but our main target is to win this game and we will go in this game like how we went against Goa” he added.
Then Laszlo shared his thoughts about the Highlanders and heaped the team with praises. He told, “At the moment NorthEast has a good winning run and I think they have made good recruitments in this season, especially with the foreigners. They have also lured one striker from Bengaluru FC, he (Deshorn Brown) is very dangerous and has scored many goals for them”
“We are prepared to face them, the last game ended in a draw but it was a good game. Our aim is not only to play good football but play successful football. We scored two goals against Goa and I hope that our offensive players will continue the same form against NorthEast United”
Apart from finding the back of the net, Chennaiyin FC have been hit with a flurry of injuries to their key players. Anirudh Thapa who suffered an injury against East Bengal last month is still struggling to recover and has not given his full services for the team in the last few games.
The CFC Head Coach gave an update on his availability and stated, “We all know that the Indian National Team needs Thapa and we also need him. We are working with his injury and we don’t know if he’ll be 100% ready for this game but at the moment, it looks good”
Further, he added, “Yesterday, he trained with us and I hope that he can play a minimum of one half in the game and If he can play, we will be happy about it because we missed him very much in every game after his injury. We hope that he will be available for this game”
Finally, the 57-year-old commented about his team’s morale in the camp and opined, “The team showed a good morale against Goa and I feel that they must show it against NorthEast United. It is about being as a team; every team has ups and downs and every season won’t be perfect”
“I think we had a lot of good things in this season but the results were not so fantastic and not positive especially in the offence. Generally, the team is together; we want to show that we have a good morale and also show that we are fighting for each other” he signed off.
