IFTWC can confirm that ISL veteran Marcelinho is in advanced talks with NorthEast United FC. A deal for the Austria-born Marco Sahanek is also agreed upon as he is set to join the Highlanders

Sahanek last played in the Thai Premier League for Nakhon Ratchasima, where he scored two goals and recorded two assists in 10 games. Having spent half a season with the club, the Austrian recently terminated his contract in early December.
NorthEast United FC were also interested in former Mohun Bagan star Sony Norde, but the Highlanders could not even come close to his expectations financially. Marco Sahanek has spent most of his career in Austria with only two spells abroad, in Malta and Thailand.
The 31-year-old attacking midfielder has played over 220 matches in the Austrian second division and also featured briefly in the Bundesliga. In over 300 professional appearances, he has scored more than 60 goals and assisted over 80.

Sahanek‘s most significant stint has been with Floridsdorfer AC in Austria’s Second Division. He appeared in 101 games for the club, scoring 29 goals and providing 32 assists.
Marcelinho’s news of joining the Highlanders comes like a bolt out of the blue as he was signed by Rajasthan United FC for the I-League season. However, it is learnt that the former ISL Golden Boot winner has accepted NorthEast’s offer and will ply his trade for yet another year in India’s premier footballing competition.
