ISL – Odisha FC signs Lalliansanga Renthlei from Rajasthan United on a 3-year deal

-

Odisha FC has secured the services of 24-year-old midfielder Lalliansanga Renthlei from Rajasthan United for an undisclosed fee on a 3-year contract – IFTWC can confirm.

A part of the footballing talent hailing from Aizawl, Mizoram, the midfielder born in 1999 is a product of the AIFF Elite Academy. Lalliansanga Renthlei started off his career with the Chennaiyin FC reserve team in 2017, where he played 12 matches across two seasons of the I-League second division. Lalliansanga’s qualities which include his vision, passing range, and ability to control the tempo of the game saw him earn a move to Indian Arrows in 2019. He spent a year at the club before signing for Sudeva Delhi on a free. He clocked 17 appearances for the club in the I-League, primarily from the bench in his two seasons there, and recorded only one assist in the league.

Lalliansanga signed for Rajasthan United in 22/23 and soon became an integral part of the team’s setup, with his role primarily being the link between the defense and the attack. The club has hailed his technical ability, work rate, and tactical awareness as the reasons which made him a mainstay in the Rajasthan United starting lineup. Lalliansanga’s versatility on the pitch made him an asset to the team. He featured in several positions starting from the left wing all the way to center back.

Renthlei played 19 matches for the Desert Warriors in the I-League in a number of different positions clocking almost 1500 minutes, even captaining the team in 3 matches. Renthlei featured in all 5 matches of Rajasthan United’s 2022/23 Durand Cup campaign, playing the full 90 minutes in their famous 2-3 victory over the team formerly known as ATK Mohun Bagan FC. He also featured in their only Super Cup qualifiers match that saw Rajasthan United FC narrowly lose to Neroca FC on penalties.

Renthlei’s versatility, skills, and passion for the game have culminated in this opportunity to ply his trade in the Indian top flight. Working under Sergio Lobera will surely help Renthlei unlock his potential with the Juggernauts in need of midfield depth after the departure of Saul Crespo to East Bengal.

Fresh off the promising Super Cup 2023 victory, Odisha FC will have progress on their minds. The Juggernauts have already secured the services of Ahmed Jahou, Mourtada Fall, and Laldinliana Renthlei ahead of the onset of their new era.
