As reported by IFTWC earlier, Deepak Tangri has officially signed for ATK Mohun Bagan. After a successful ISL 20/21 campaign, the Chennaiyin midfielder has signed a two-year deal with the Mariners. In what can be considered as a homecoming, Tangri was a part of Mohunbagan’s U18 team between 2014 and 2017.
ISL – ATK Mohun Bagan in advanced talks to sign Deepak Tangri
He joined the Indian Arrows in 2017 before switching to Chennaiyin in 2019. Tangri had limited opportunities at the club during his first season under Owen Coyle. Csaba Laszlo, however, had made him a regular starter for the Chennaiyin team in 20/21. He started 11 games and made six substitute appearances for the Supermachans.
ATK Mohun Bagan had announced the departure of Spanish midfielder Javi Hernandez, followed by the signing of Finland’s Joni Kauko as a replacement. Deepak Tangri is Bagan’s third Indian recruitment so far after Amrinder Singh and Liston Colaco. He is a hard-tackling midfielder who can also play as a center-back. Tangri will hope to further enhance his game by working with Habas at Bagan.
ATK Mohun Bagan has been proactive in the transfer market this summer after failing to win both the ISL Shield and Trophy last season. With the upcoming AFC Cup in mind, they’re putting together a strong team.
