ATK Mohun Bagan began their Indian Super League campaign with the 3 points surpassing the Kerala Blasters challenge.
The inaugural match at Fatorda saw Hugo Boumous scoring the first goal of the season in the initial minutes, while Sahal Abdul Samad became the first Indian goal scorer this time. A brace from the Frenchman, a penalty goal from Roy Krishna added with Liston’s beautiful curler and a comeback goal from Diaz were the highlights of the game. The scoresheet ended at 4 goals with the Mariners side and the men in yellow managed to score two in reply. Here’s what the post-match thoughts of the game looked like.
Kerala Blasters Bhutanese attacker Chencho Gyelstshen spoke about the teams’ performance as he said
” Everyone gave their best, though the result was not in our favour. We can feel the fans, they must be feeling very disheartened. We should learn from today’s mistakes and focus on the next game.“
Hugo Adnan Boumous left no Piller unturned yesterday with his goals and an assist. Rightfully, he also bagged the Hero Of The Match title. The former Mumbai City FC star shifted to the green and maroon colours this season. Hugo reflects on the game
“Our main target was to win the first game and we did it. I think it’s great as well to contribute to the winning of the team tonight with the two goals. There is still a lot to improve because we did some silly mistakes but it’s okay, it shows that we still have potential to improve and to be better for the next games “.
Hugo spoke about his tuning with Roy Krishna and Joni Kauko.
“Great to play with that kind of player. Roy was elected the best player of the season last year. He is a great player, everybody knows that he has a lot of quality. Joni as well, coming from the last EURO 2020. “
He added that it’s great to play alongside such players and they have a good team.
ATK Mohun Bagan will face arch-rivals SC East Bengal in their next fixture. Talking about the historic Kolkata derby he said,
“Will have to analyze the mistakes we did tonight to improve. I think we have to improve our possession in the game and some tactical stuff to improve as well. It would be great to play against East Bengal, it’s a historic derby even if the fans are not here, it’s quite difficult but let’s see how it goes.“
Antonio Habas says that it’s just another match, he explained
” Now rest, recover the team and after that think about the opponents East Bengal. For me, it’s one more match. It’s not 5 points, not 6 points, it’s only 3 points in the game. I don’t want to play the match before, I want to play it at the moment of the match.”
Talking about the extra Indian player with the introduction of the 3+1 rule, he said
“It’s good for the ISL. But I think, in my opinion, the foreign players coming have good quality .”
Habas also spoke that players like Subashish, Pritam, and Tangri can turn into good players for the national team this season and he is happy with their performance so far.
The gaffer shared his thoughts on the game
“We have good players, but we need to improve a lot.
I’m not happy with the second half because the team was relaxing, and had a lot of confidence. I don’t want that. We have to improve many things.”
“We had many opportunities and chances to score more goals. It’s the first match, we need more precision. I’m happy with the three points, we have to improve in the second half.” He opinioned
Talking about Hugo Boumous , he said
“Hugo is a good player. We have a lot of good players. We have to build a team, not determine a player as a star. They all are quality players and eventually, the players have to be at the top.”
