Kerala’s most successful female coach Priya P V is all set to take charge as the assistant coach of the Indian national women’s football team. She is the only female coach from Kerala who owns an AFC A License by her name.
P V Priya will take charge of the camp soon assisting the newly promoted head coach Thomas Dennerby, IFTWC can exclusively confirm.
Priya PV who herself was a footballer in her golden days. She represented the Kerala state football team from 1997-2009 and played mainly as a center-back and occasionally as a wingback for the team. Her father who was an ex-serviceman introduced her to the game in her early childhood. Since then football was her passion and she identified her call towards coaching at the final phase of her playing days.
After she retires from the sport in 2009, she went onto take a master’s in physical education from Calicut University. She later took a diploma in coaching from the National Institute of Sport, Patiala, and also grabbed her AFC C License in the following year.
Success was always in her footsteps as she guided the U14 women’s football team to lift the AFC U14 Championship trophy in 2012 and 2013. She was also the mastermind behind Gokulam Kerala FC (W) team as they went on to lift the Indian Women’s League trophy at their very best debutant season.
She is widely known for her talent identification skills and nurtured many young guns to the senior national women’s football team.
Previously, she was shortlisted for the vacant position of Head Coach along with Bino George from Kerala but the All India Football Federation (AIFF) committee decided to promote Thomas Dennerby as the Head Coach of the senior women’s football team as he has good experience in coaching the U17 Women’s football team. Currently, Priya P V is the best choice as the Assistant coach and her added knowledge and experience about women’s football will benefit the team as a whole.
