Match Preview – India Women aim to replicate Bahrain performance against Chinese Taipei

The Indian Women’s football team will lock horns with the Chinese Taipei team on 13th October, Wednesday at 8:30 PM IST at the Hamad Town Stadium. The game is a part of the international friendly games scheduled ahead of the much-awaited AFC Asian Cup next year, which is to be hosted by India. Under the guidance of newly appointed head coach, Thomas Dennerby, India Women has had a good run in terms of results from the previous fixtures. They faced UAE, Tunisia and Bahrain after a month-long training camp in Jharkhand.

The Blue Tigresses are coming off from a brilliant five-goal victory against the hosts Bahrain courtesy to goals from Sangita Basfore, Pyari Xaxa, Indumathi Kathiresan, and Manisha Kalyan last Sunday.

The team is currently ranked at 57th position globally and faces Chinese Taipei, which is at the 40th rank. Head coach Dennerby said ahead of the clash “The games till now have shown us what we need to work on going forward. The game against Chinese Taipei will be our toughest test so far on this tour. But we are ready for that“.

The Chinese Taipei team is currently in Bahrain, where they will also be playing their AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualification matches, where they are in group A alongside Laos and Bahrain. The group also had Turkmenistan, who withdrew their name due to COVID 19 travel restrictions.

India, in the game against UAE, thrashed them 4-1 before an unfortunate 1-0 loss to Tunisia. The coach also confirmed that the team would move next to Sweden, where they will play against Sweedish top tier sides Hammarby and Djurgårdens IF.
