Asian superpower and the host of the upcoming World Cup, Qatar has announced their 27 men squad ahead of the 2022 World Cup and 2023 Asian Cup joint qualifiers.

Qatar will play against India and Oman. Qatar will face India on 3rd June 2021 following a match against Oman on 7th June 2021. Head Coach Félix Sánchez Bas will be preparing his team for two wins against the opposition nations thereby finishing high in the table.

The Spaniard Félix Sánchez, the most trusted mentor of the team has been with the nation since 2013 has been able to maintain a win percentage of 46.3% from his overall tenure. His men will be overlooking the qualifiers void of much pressure as the team has already earned its spot in the 2022 World Cup being the host nation. The coach will be looking forward to these matches to enhance their team on the tactical side.

Qatar has some significant matches lined up following the World Cup qualifiers in July as they’re taking part in CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Attacker Hassan Al-Haydos who’s the most capped player in the squad with a record 138 appearance will lead the team upfront and his goal poaching abilities will surely be a headache for the oppositions. The most polished defender of the nation, Abdulkarim Hassan will continue to be a lethal weapon in their solid defence line.

Qatar has been subject to scrutiny and criticism for the overreliance on naturalized players over the years. Almoez Ali and Bassam Al-Rawi being naturalized players, still made it to the current 27 men squad after an alleged complaint against them by UAE Football Association way back in 2019.

On the other side, things will be much arduous for Igor Stimac and India as Qatar are a well-balanced team on and off the paper. Peeking back at history, India faced Qatar once in the 1996 World Cup Qualifier where the maroons were the meticulous winners with a scoreline of 6-0. In 2012, the Blue Tigers played a behind-door friendly against Qatar and won the match in a 2-1 scoreline but since it does not count as a competitive fixture, the record remains unscathed for Qatar.

Since the new year of 2021, Qatar has played a total of three matches. In stats, the Maroons are on a winning streak with two wins and one draw in total. The Spanish boss will be gazing forward to continuing the same momentum throughout the qualifiers.
