Former Mohun Bagan shot-stopper and I-League champion Sankar Roy has agreed to continue at SC East Bengal for the 2021/22 season. He was loaned to Hyderabad FC in a swap deal with Subrata Pal during the previous edition of the Indian Super League.

SC East Bengal has had to make rapid moves in the transfer market to solidify their Indian contingent before sealing the foreign players. They have been working to renew their Indians, among whom, Roy can prove to be a vital member.

The 26-year-old goalkeeper can very well find himself frequently in the starting line-ups unless East Bengal were to sign someone else.

Sankar Roy had a stellar campaign for Mohun Bagan in the 19/20 season of the I-League after he took up the gloves from the skipper Shilton Paul. He went on to produce 7 clean sheets in the 14 matches that he featured in, the highest in the league.

His heroics propelled the Mariners to the title. However, he didn’t make the cut in the merged side ATK Mohun Bagan FC and joined arch-rivals SC East Bengal.

His renewal brings some comfort to the Red and Gold brigade fans who can finally see the spine of their side slowly being put together.
