In their inaugural ISL season, East Bengal failed to make any mark as they finished 9th in points table. Their woes didn’t end there as the investor-officials saga is still making rounds with many uncertainties. Because of the issues between the officials and investor, the red and gold brigade hasn’t been able to recruit players properly.

More problems for East Bengal as one of their star defender has been offered a contract by another ISL Club, although there is a small twist in this straightforward looking deal.

In search of more playing time, Sarthak Golui along with his Bengali teammate Sourav Das left Mumbai City FC to sign for the Kolkata Giants in the winter transfer window. Sarthak penned down a short term contract with East Bengal and played most of the games after joining the club midway through the season. He also scored a towering header against Northeast United in a narrow defeat.

Sarthak has a Right to Match clause in his contract with East Bengal. If any club makes an offer for Sarthak Golui, then East Bengal have the right to match the offer and extend Sarthak’s stay in the club for longer period of time. But if the club decides against activating the clause, then Sarthak can sign for his desired club.

IFTWC can confirm that an unnamed club has already made an offer for Sarthak Golui which is verbally agreed by the player and East Bengal have 10 days to decide whether they would activate the Right to match clause. With growing concerns about the investors and all the happening at the club, It is very unlikely that East Bengal would activate the clause and retain Sarthak.
