SC East Bengal have completed the signing of Fran Sota, IFTWC can confirm.
Sota, primarily an attacking midfielder, has spent most of his career in the third division of Spanish football with clubs like SD Leioa, Logrones, Racing Ferrol and the latest being CD Calahorra. Sota played 23 games for Calahorra across a variety of competitions last season, scoring four goals and assisting twice. He was without a club since the start of the 2021/22 season.
Among the Spaniard’s notable stints was with SD Leioa, where he played for four seasons, scoring 21 goals and creating five. SC East Bengal can utilize the 31-year-old as an option in the frontline as well, considering he is comfortable playing on the wings.
With East Bengal, Sota will be playing outside his native Spain for the first time in his career.
SC East Bengal have been among the most active clubs in the January Transfer Window as they have signed two new players, Marcelo Ribeiro and Fran Sota. The 24-year-old Brazilian replaced Daniel Chima, who has now signed for Jamshedpur FC.
There is a desperate need for impetus in the Red and Gold Brigade’s midfield and they will hope that the signing of the Spaniard will get them back on track. East Bengal have scored the second-lowest number of goals in the league, but they seem to have addressed their problem with the acquisition of a new attacking midfielder and a striker.
