SC East Bengal is set to sign Songpu Singsit from Neroca FC, IFTWC can confirm. The paper works are pending, but the deal is expected to be completed soon.

Chennaiyin FC had made a good offer for Songpu Singsit, but the deal did not materialize. SC East Bengal has now entered the proceedings and is expected to complete the signing of Songpu Singsit.

Last season, the 22-year-old played in the I League with Neroca and impressed immensely, but his team finished second from bottom, ahead of the Indian Arrows. However, they avoided dropping out, with the AIFF scrapping relegation this season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Songpu Singsit

Songpu Singsit appeared in 12 matches for Neroca, scoring three goals and providing three assists. He played mostly on the left-wing and was one of the best forwards in the league- a claim backed by his statistics. During every 90 minutes, the Manipuri player dribbled 5.45 times, and made 1.54 progressive runs, while completing at least 0.59 key passes every game. Additionally, he created a total of 13 goal-scoring opportunities in 12 matches.

As a consequence of his stellar performances, the youngster won the Fan’s Emerging Player award in the I-League last season.

Songpu previously played for Muvanlai Athletics Sports Club and signed for Neroca FC on a three-year deal last year. The player has an existing contract with Neroca FC currently as a result of which the club demanded a transfer fee when Chennaiyin approached them.

Having entered the transfer market at the eleventh hour, SC East Bengal has been actively trying to recruit quality players to play for them next season. They have already struck loan deals for Jackichand Singh and Amarjit Singh Kiyam alongside deals for Sourav Das and Ankit Mukherjee. It is going to be a busy few hours for East Bengal with the transfer window closing at midnight tomorrow.
