ISL – New Era for Odisha FC as Sergio Lobera Takes Charge

-

Odisha FC has completed the signing of Sergio Lobera as their new head-coach, IFTWC can confirm. As previously reported, Odisha FC was leading the race to sign the Spanish coach and has now successfully completed the deal. According to a source closely monitoring the deal, “East Bengal was never in advanced discussions with Lobera, while Odisha FC where always ahead in the pursuit of the Spaniard’s appointment.”

Despite the intense media attention surrounding Lobera’s future, Odisha FC managed to secure the deal, having earlier emerged as the front-runners in the race to appoint the Spaniard. The Indian football community had been captivated by the Lobera saga, and it is finally going to reach a conclusion, with the 46-year-old putting pen to paper with the Juggernauts.

Sergio Lobera has a strong track record of success in the Indian Super League, having previously guided FC Goa to the final in the 2018-19 season and winning the League Winners Shield the following year. Despite his success, Lobera parted ways with Goa in 2020 and joined the City Group-owned Mumbai City FC a few months later.

In his debut season with Mumbai, Lobera enjoyed tremendous success, leading the team to their first-ever piece of silverware in the form of the League Shield. This achievement was followed by winning the Playoffs trophy, making him the only manager in the league’s history to win the coveted league double. Lobera’s tactical acumen and ability to get the best out of his players were instrumental in Mumbai City FC’s success, and he quickly become one of the most respected coaches in the Indian Super League.

Sergio Lobera, after his first season at Mumbai, decided to embark on a new challenge with Sichuan Jiuniu in the Chinese Second Division. During his tenure at the Chinese club, Lobera managed to guide them to a seventh-place finish in the league by winning 18 out of their 34 matches. However, the management of Sichuan Jiuniu parted ways with Lobera just a few days before the start of their new league campaign as the former eyed a move back to the Indian Super League.

With his impressive track record, Lobera’s appointment as Odisha FC’s head coach will surely generate a lot of excitement among the team’s fans and the Indian football community at large. If Lobera can replicate the success he had with Mumbai City and Goa, Odisha could be a team to watch out for in the upcoming Indian Super League season.

With Lobera at the helm, Odisha FC has struck gold, securing the services of one of the most sought-after coaches. The Juggernauts have made a statement of intent as his appointment could be just what the club needs to dust off their past disappointments and make a mark in the upcoming season. One thing is for sure, Lobera’s arrival at Odisha FC will inject a new sense of optimism and excitement into the club, and it will be fascinating to see how he and the Juggernauts fare in the upcoming season of the Indian Super League.
