Sourav Das – I have the desire to play somewhere in Europe in the near future

-

It is very obvious to love a wonder kid in Indian Football. There were many players who managed to make a name for themselves in the recent ISL season. One of those who not only impressed all the Mumbai City FC fans but also everyone who saw him play was Sourav Das. Sourav was surely one of the best Indian players last season in the Mumbai City FC squad. Although Mumbai didn’t qualify for the playoffs, Sourav pleased everyone with his performance and was highly rated by most of his fellow teammates.

As we inch closer to the upcoming season of ISL, Sourav is all set to cement his spot in the team with a staggering season. “Well it was a bit difficult for me to keep training and keep myself matchfit during the initials days of the lockdown. But as professionals you’ll always have to adjust according to the situation and that’s what I’ve been doing,” Sourav told IFTWC when asked about his training sessions during the lockdown.

Sourav was born in Kolkata, which is known as the Mecca of Indian Football but he never knew that he would end up making a full time career in football. “I was born in Kolkata and I started playing football very late, it was all just for passing some time and I never knew that I would end up being a professional footballer who would represent Mumbai City someday,” said Sourav.

Kolkata has produced some of the best Indian football players and when asked about the facilities in Kolkata, Sourav replied, “Yes, Kolkata has obviously produced some of the best Indian talents we’ve seen in a while and it’ll always remain the Mecca of Indian football. But still facilities can be made better. There are a lot of poor kids playing football in Kolkata and if something can be done for them, it would be really great for them and also for the Kolkata football fraternity as they would be able to produce even more such exciting talents”.

Sourav has also played for one of the best Indian clubs, Mohun Bagan. The support that one player gets there is immense but at the same time that player will also have to take a lot of responsibility and pressure. “The kind of stage they’ll set for the team is absolutely amazing. But the pressure of playing infront of 60,000 fans is something out of the world. Well I’ve always enjoyed playing under pressure and I’ve accepted the opportunity I got. I’ve always made sure that I contribute to my level best whenever a chance is given to me” quoted Sourav while speaking about the pressure one has to face while playing infront of the Mohun Bagan fans.

Sourav even revealed that he still has the desire to play somewhere in Europe in the near future and if given an opportunity, he would try his level best to make his country proud.

He has the desire to do very well in the upcoming season under the new coach and will be expecting to get a national team call very soon, deservingly.
