Stuart Baxter tasted his first win of the season with Odisha FC after defeating Kerala Blasters FC in a six goal thriller. Odisha FC defeated Kerala Blasters FC 4 goals to 2 in an enticing match tonight.
“I’m very pleased. I’m very pleased for the players as well. People are mostly drawn into the thought that the players haven’t been doing well but the players have been excellent. They never folded. So for me this win isn’t a surprise, it might be a surprise for the others, but not for me. We changed the way we have been playing. We had Jacob Tratt playing as a right-back. We had Daniel come up because Manuel Onwu had a stretch. We had Bora returning to centre-back. We had two central midfield players instead of three. We could have gone wrong in many ways and yet, giving away a goal and fighting right back into the game and dominating it for the next 75 minutes, I think it was an awesome performance.
“We have shown the glimpses of the potential that this team carries. Up until the game against SC East Bengal, it was sporadic. I think this is the longest that we’ve concentrated, focused and reproduced what we’ve been doing in the training field in a match.”
Odisha FC was seen pressing a lot tonight unlike the other games and the coach Stuart Baxter agreed that that was in the game plan to get control over the game and break Kerala Blasters FC’s play early on in the game.
Stuart Baxter continued and stated an analogy of how things turned around for him in his time from Kobe as an inspiration to the players and said that he certainly hopes this game to be the catalyst for the team to perform well from here on till the end of the season.
“What I expect, at least, for Odisha FC is that the players give their everything that they’ve got into every game they play and then we’ll see where we end up at the end of the season, a fourth place or the tenth place. I’ll be happy if the players continue to give their best till the very end.”
Stuart Baxter signed off by telling that he was confident that the result for the night will be a positive one as the players and the staffs have been showing a positive mentality. He also said that Manuel Onwu was having a tight hamstring as the reason for his absence from tonight’s game.
