Sumit Rathi pens down a new deal with ATK Mohun Bagan that will keep him at the club until 2025.

ATK Mohun Bagan have been very active in the transfer window. They have already extended contracts of Prabir Das, Jobby Justin, Pritam Kotal and Roy Krishna. Their new signing from Mumbai City FC, Subhashish Bose signed a 5 year deal with the club. Sumit Rathi is the latest player to have signed a new contract with the ISL champions.

The left footed centre back started his career at the AIFF Elite Academy before joining Indian Arrows to play in the Hero I League. After a short stint with the Arrows, Sumit was roped in by ATK. The youngster from Muzaffarnagar was initially dropped to the reserve team of ATK as the club already had options in his position.

ISL 2019-20 season turned out to be very good for him as Antonio Habas showed faith in him by giving him opportunities in the starting eleven. Sumit didn’t fail to impress the gaffer as he made his mark and appeared for 14 times during the title winning season.

Sumit Rathi is a ball playing defender with good pace as he has played as a left back in the past. Sumit made 115 clearances throughout the season, making him one of best left footed Indian defender in the League. 27 tackles and 19 interceptions to add to his impressive stats.

The Emerging player of ISL 2019-20 has also represented Indian national team in the junior categories. Sumit Rathi has played for India U16, U19 and U20 as well. He started in all 3 matches for India u19 when the Blue Tigers truimped against Vanuatu, New Caledonia and Tahiti.

ATK Mohun Bahan are signing longterm contracts with the players in the recent times. Considering the changes in the Indian football market, it’s a great move by the club as they can get hefty amount of transfer fee in future if the player is willing to relocate.

Sumit Rathi will be a key player for ATK Mohun Bagan as they are going to play in the AFC Cup where only 4 foreigners are allowed in the starting 11. Sumit has proved his potential last season and has earned a longterm deal with the champions. It will be interesting to see whether he can replicate his form in the upcoming season.
