Today, during a chat with Sunil Chhetri, conducted by the AIFF, Chhetri addressed the media and answered a few questions. Following are the words of Captain fantastic as he answered the questions as smoothly as knocked the top corner in the last game.
Sunil Chhetri clears off the rumors
With a lot of speculations looming over the Indian Number 11’s retirement, Sunil Chhetri cleared the air as he quipped, “The day when I stop enjoying the game, I will stop. If there was no hunger, I wouldn’t be here. When I started to play, the boys were born; and the day I don’t enjoy it, I will stop.”
Reiterating the importance of channeling all the energies towards the task in hand, Sunil Chhetri added, “You have to be focused on your work, there will be a lot to do. Most of the time you get mentally distressed only when you are bothered by the expectations others put up. And it’s not good, especially in sports. What I have to say is, keep it simple, think about how much you can do, think about what matters to you and that’s all. Rest will fall just right in place.”
“After me there will be better players. We have to believe that. We will get better players than me,” were the captain’s parting words.
With that being said by the man himself, we’re left with a more intriguing question- Will anyone fill in the boots of the Indian legend ever? Certainly, time will be the best judge!
