India was crowned the champions of the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championship for a record 9th time after beating Kuwait in a harrowing encounter that couldn’t separate the two sides after 120 minutes of end-to-end football.

The Sunil Chhetri-led India side added the 9th SAFF Championship title to their collection when they faced Kuwait in the final at the Kanteerava Stadium on Tuesday. This was the second meeting between the two sides in this tournament with the earlier group stage meeting ending in a 1-1 draw.

It is all down to the ultimate game of the tournament which decides who will claim the SAFF Championship trophy today at Sree Kanteerava Stadium, Bengaluru. It will be a feisty contest between India - 8 time winners and Kuwait, who have been invited to the tournament.

After a hard fight but an unfortunate 1-1 draw against Kuwait in the final group game, India were up against Lebanon in the Semi-Finals of the SAFF Championship, for yet another big clash. For the third time in the last few weeks, the Blue Tigers were placed against the Cedars. Lebanon have been one of the toughest opponents in terms of records and rankings lately for the Blue Tigers.
