were one of the strongest teams heading into the season with a fury of signings- one of them being the Fijian striker Roy Krishna, highest scorer in A-League 2018-19 ; and proved to be “the” side to beat from the beginning of the season.
On 30th November 2019, the Islanders were playing away against a strong ATK side at VYBK stadium. Michael Soosairaj gave ATK the lead in the 38th minute with a neat finish from the left and Mumbai were left trailing at the half-time. In the 62nd minute, Pratik Chaudhari brought the Islanders back into the game with a header as he levelled terms for his team.
As the match entered the stoppage time Mumbai kept testing the ATK defence in the box. A pass in the box was met by Serge Kevyn as he tapped the ball inside the goal without any mistake in front of a stunned VYBK stadium. Mumbai were minutes away from an iconic victory against ATK. But as the beautiful game of Football would have it, there emerged the Fijian assassin who refused to send the 20-odd thousand ATK fans back home, disappointed
Just a minute after Serge’s tap-in, Roy Krishna took a deft touch to hold on to a long ball and turned to shoot the ball past Amrinder. His superb effort led to ATK drawing the match as Mumbai were denied a well-deserved victory.
