United Punjab is one of the fastest developing football academy which has one of the largest football infrastructure in India. United Punjab have trained players from every state in India along with some foreign players. They provide interactive learning, group activities which leads to individual development. However one might think, maybe same amenities are provided elsewhere, but United Punjab FC with their massive education overhaul system is aiming to produce players who have the right knowledge along with the right talent- a phenomena quite missing in the current footballing ecosystem. Training of the players is conducted in the morning and evening on weekly basis. Players are provided with total 9 grounds among which, 3 are international size fields and 6 football fields. More than 9 weekly sessions take place and weekly practice matches are conducted as well. All coaches are FIFA certified and conditioning of the young players are assured to be of excellent class. So the young players are going to have AFC, AIFF Coaches for their sessions. Along with intense physical training, theoretical sessions are provided to them and are taught game analysis for exceptional playing strategies.
All residential players live in the hostel where they get AC/Non-AC rooms with dormitory and pollution free environment. Other sports activities and recreation facilities are also available during non-training days. These recreations include gym facilities, swimming pool, volleyball etc. Eligible players will get opportunities to participate in national level competitions and will get chances to play in National tournaments, State FA & AIFF leagues. These ensures a holistic development for the budding talents.
United Punjab is also giving facilities of physiotherapy sessions by trained physiotherapist, physical assessment of the players and nutritionist for their diet and health. Veg & Non-veg meal options are available too. Academy owns buses for away tournaments. Through UPFC’s network and technical expertise, it provides students opportunities to appear for selection trials with top clubs in the country and abroad.
United Punjab runs the academy under the philosophy that no talented kid should be deprived of the best football guidance due to lack of financial support. The enrollment scheme targets at least 20% students from underprivileged class of society get a chance to experience this world class training programme. Along with this, United Punjab offers upto 100% scholarship for eligible players so that they can get an opportunity to get the best out of their talent.
At academy, the training of top football players takes centre stage. That’s why the youth academy is also known as the breeding ground of Punjab football. Academy follows the system followed by famous ajax club known as TIPS model which stands for Technique, Insight, Personality & Speed. United Punjab is dependent on players from its own youth academy and youth teams are trained in exactly the same way as the Punjab team.
Academy strives to keep the way of playing football recognizable, attractive, offensive minded, creative, fast, fair and preferably far away from the own goal on the opponent’s half. The players own a special United Punjab Passport in which all achievements are noted. Upto five or six promising players will make it to the first team each year for national and international arena.
The academy engages in close interactions within young players, coaches and parents to form a better support system for their future pro performers. According to United Punjab, due to lack of a sound youth development system, many talented Indian players fail to reach their full potential of global gaming rather than shortage of talent.
