Csaba Laszlo was all praise for the midfield general Anirudh Thapa and talked more ahead of their clash against Bengaluru
After the deadlock against the Kerala Blasters, Chennaiyin FC is all set and are bracing themselves for their second successive “Southern Derby” duel. This time they will be locking horns against the AFC pioneers Bengaluru FC on Friday (4th December 2020) at the GMC Bambolim Stadium, Goa.
Ahead of the clash, Chennaiyin FC (CFC) Gaffer Csaba Laszlo spoke in the pre-match press conference where he gave some insights about the team and talked about the importance of the Indian core present in the squad.
When IFTWC asked the Head Coach about an update on Fanai’s Injury and his availability for the next game, the 56-year-old coach stated “Fanai is awesome but we have Jerry. He has played the most and he is well prepared. He (Jerry) is one of the best Left backs in the country”
“Fanai came in the training and showed his potential as a left-back. So I gave my trust for him. But now Jerry has the possibility to show us that he belongs to the team and prove his talent. I am sure that he will do a good job” he commented.
By taking note of the coach’s response it looks like Jerry Lalrinzuala might start ahead of Fanai in the upcoming game against Bengaluru FC.
Later Laszlo opened up about their next opponent and said, “We watched their two games, Bengaluru are physically a very strong and a tall team. They create chances from set-pieces and long throw-ins, so we must be prepared for this. I think we have a weakness and we should also use their weakness and concentrate on our strengths”
“I think we have to shoot more on the target and score more. We have one day more to exercise the set pieces and organise a little bit on what we have to do. We will try to play without many mistakes and will use their (BFC) mistakes to score goals” he further added.
Csaba then typically went on to praise the star Indian midfielder Anirudh Thapa and said, “Last season he (Thapa) did a great job, but he just scored one goal. I wish for him to do the same this season and want him to score maybe 10 goals”.
“Thapa is a very interesting player, I tell you why. First, he can run a lot, then physically he is top. He also has the creativity and the innovation which you can’t teach”
“In the defence, he is helpful but he is more a player with offensive quality. And for this reason, I try to push him a little bit more in the front and give him the freedom” he concluded.
Currently, Chennaiyin FC has been placed fifth in 2020-21 Indian Super League (ISL) standings and will be looking to capitalize on their solid start. They will try to attain the winning momentum and move to the top of the table. On the other hand, Bengaluru FC is not off to a great start. They are still winless from their two previous encounters and stand with two draws. Now, they will be hoping to break the shackles against their bitter rivals and will come hard at CFC to register their first win of the season.
