Juan Ferrando – We can play against Mumbai, but not against 14 players

On the other hand, the Mumbai City FC coach Sergio Lobera and co. who seemed to be in some red hot form were restricted to a mere draw. The Islanders were lucky enough to escape a red card threat and some penalties. Coach Lobera opined, “No I dont think we were lucky, because we had chances to score more goals, we needed to be more clinical, we were playing against a team which plays similar brand of football but we clearly had more chances than the opponent team.”

Mumbai City FC had options aplenty, and heading into a must win game the team selection was very crucial, “The selection of the players for today’s game was difficult because I have a set of very good players, and I wanted to play more offensive football because I think they (FC Goa) were missing some important players and we wanted to take advantage. But if we’re speaking about the best eleven, its never easy,” said the gaffer.

We also saw Mumbai’s senior leftback Mandar Rao Desai switch to an unconventional position which might have costed them a fortune. When asked about Rakip’s availability the coach said, “The problem with Rakip is he’s not a hundred percent fit, it was not possible as he has an injury. Speaking about Mandar, we need to be more careful as he’s playing at a non natural position. But I am very happy with the performance of Mandar (Rao Desai) and Adam (Le Fondre) although they’re playing in their non natural positions.”

Lobera also shared his thoughts on the goal they conceded, credited to Saviour Gama’s tally. “Yeah obviously, when you concede a goal, you always have a chance to do somthing better. One action of not defending well and giving extra space (costed us) and obviously we can improve on it. In general terms, I am very happy with the way my team has performed and now we need to prepare for the next game. We only have two days and hopefully we can improve upon certain things,”

“Maybe FC Goa have gained confidence after the game, but so have we. But we at Mumbai have a very positive and strong mentality. In good as well as bad moments we have shown this to everyone throughout the season and we are ready for the next game,” the Mumbai City FC coach concluded.
