Ahead of the clash against Bangladesh in FIFA World Cup 2022 and AFC Asian Cup 2023 preliminary joint qualifying round, defender Sandesh Jhingan alongside head coach Igor Stimac spoke in the pre-match press conference. The versatile centre-back Jhingan showed brilliant performance against Asian giants Qatar. He made seven clearances, blocked four shots, making two interceptions and tackles each.
“The match against Qatar was not easy. But we displayed a certain character and arrogance in the 90 minutes against the Asian champions. We aim to do great in our second game. We will give our best with our desire, commitment and try to make everyone proud,” says Jhingan.
Last time when Blue Tigers clashed against Bangladesh back in 2019 at Yuvak Bharati Kridangan, Kolkata, India managed to take a point as the final scoreline remained 1-1.
“In football, you can get surprised and get bad results any day. The main job is the preparation – both physically and mentally,” says Jhingan ahead of the next game.
The 27-year old confidently spoke about supporting the head coach’s plan to encounter Bangladesh and acquiring all three points, leading the team from the back. “We need to stick to the game plan and show the right desire and commitment which the gaffer wants and expects from us,” Jhingan added.
The match will be played at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium, Doha, tomorrow at IST 7.30 pm.
