Coppell was announced as the manager of Kerala Blasters ahead of ISL 2016 season with a lot of expectations. Kerala Blasters had a staggering season under Steve and the Englishman was successful in taking Kerala Blasters to the finals. Although they lost in the finals against ATK, the role Coppell played cannot be ignored. On 12 July 2017, it was announced that Coppell would not return to Kerala Blasters for the 2017-18 season which was surely a heartbreak for all the fans of Kerala Blasters.
After leaving Kerala, Coppell decided to sign for Jamshedpur FC ahead of ISL 2017-2018 and after being with them only for one season, Coppell moved once again to another Indian Super League club, ATK, on 18 June 2018.
ATK was the last club Coppell managed with 38.1% win percentage with them.
Rene Meulensteen was appointed as Kerala Blasters’ head coach ahead of ISL season 2017-18 with a lot of expectations because of the kind of experience he had. The Dutch coach had managed teams like Al-Ittihad and Al-Sadd before joining the side from Kerala.
After having a very poor start of the season, the club parted ways with Meulensteen. He is currently working as an assistant manager for the Australian Football team under Graham Arnold.
