David James was announced as the player-manager of Kerala Blasters for ISL 2014-15 and it was great news for all the Kerala Blasters fans because James is someone who has played for top clubs around the world. He knew exactly how to bring the best out of each and every player.

James was successful in guiding Kerala Blasters to the playoffs in the very first attempt. They were absolutely amazing in the second half but fell short of a goal against ATK in the final. After the end of the season, James decided to leave the side from Kerala which was a terrible blow for the Blasters fans.

James again returned to the club as their head coach ahead of the 2017-18 season but was unable to take them to the playoffs because of numerous problems in the club.

The last club that James served was Þróttur Vogum as an assistant coach in July 2020 but only for a game.

Eelco was appointed as the new head coach of Kerala Blasters after a very disappointing season. Fans and the club management had a lot of expectations from the Dutch manager as he had a wonderful stint at NorthEast United FC where he was able to guide them to their first ever playoffs.

Kerala Blasters started the season really well under Eelco where they defeated ATK in the match with a scoreline of 2-1 and everyone thought that the 2019-20 season could be the season where Kerala Blasters finally win something.

But, things started getting tougher for Eelco because of the number of injuries his players suffered and also the absence of Sandesh Jhingan played a huge role in the underwhelming season they had to endure. Eelco was later sacked by Kerala Blasters as they appointed Kibu Vicuna as the head coach for the next season.

Eelco is currently without a club, but is currently in talks with some clubs in Europe and India. He was recently linked with Chennaiyin FC and it would be very interesting to see if he’s really willing to come back to India.
