Chennaiyin FC appointed Hungarian-Romanian manager Csaba Laszlo as their head coach for the upcoming edition of the Indian Super League
With more than two decades of coaching expertise at the club and international level, Csaba Laszlo brings in a wealth of experience into the two time ISL Champions Chennaiyin FC.
Csaba Laszlo kicked off his coaching career in Germany with BW Kerpen. He then took charge of Borussia Monchengladbach’s B team. Csaba Laszlo’s talent spotting abilities became instrumental for Monchengladbach in finding players like Marcel Jensen, Eugen Polanski, and Tobias Levels. After a fruitful spell with Monchengladbach Csaba Laszlo joined as the assistant coach of the Hungarian national team which was managed by German legend Lother Matthaus. As Matthaus was a stranger to Hungarian Football Csaba Laszlo’s remarkable knowledge about football in Hungary was much sought after.
In 2004 Csaba Laszlo was appointed as the head coach of Hungarian heavyweights Ferencvarosi TC where he won the 2005 Hungarian coach of the year award for his success in Europe. But the following year Laszlo had to leave the club as it ran into financial distress. Then after spending a few months in charge of Hungarian club FC Sopron Csaba Laszlo joined Uganda national team as their Head Coach. Under his tutelage, the national team of Uganda had a significant leap in the world rankings.
Csaba Laszlo took them to 97 from 167. With Local players signing lucrative deals abroad, Historic victories over arch-rivals Nigeria and Angola, Third place finish in the CECAFA Cup and almost qualifying for the African cup of nations Uganda relished their best spell in 24 years under Csaba Laszlo.
Csaba Laszlo served as head coach of the Lithuanian national team before joining Scottish Premiership side Heart of Midlothian, Whom he elevated to 3rd in the standings and secured qualification for the inaugural Europa League. As a reward for his extraordinary success at Hearts, he received the Scottish premier league Manager of the year award. After his shocking exit from Hearts, he went onto manage several clubs like Belgian pro league side Charleroi SC, Hungarian side MTK Budapest, Slovak super Liga club Dunajska streda, Scottish premiership side Dundee united and Romanian Club Sespi OSK.
Csaba Laszlo will be aiming to go one step further than his predecessor Owen Coyle who decided to join Jamshedpur FC for the 2020/21 season of the Indian Super League. Chennaiyin FC has already retained their Indian Core and Extended deals with Brazilians Rafael Crivellaro and Eli Sabia. In his playing days, Csaba Laszlo was a midfielder. With Anirudh Thapa and Rafael Crivellaro at his disposal at Chennaiyin FC Csaba Laszlo will be licking his lips.
