Willis Plaza and Dipanda Dicka are set to sign with Aizawl FC for the upcoming I-League season, IFTWC can confirm. The two strikers recently played together for Delhi FC and are set to continue their partnership but with Aizawl.
Willis Plaza joined East Bengal in 2016 and immediately made an impact at the club scoring nine goals in 14 appearances for them. A disappointing season followed for Plaza, but he returned stronger than ever with Churchill Brothers, scoring 21 goals in 20 matches and winning the Golden Boot Award.
The 34-year-old spent a brief time on loan with the reigning champions of Bangladesh, Bashundhara Kings, before rejoining Churchill. He participated in the I-League Qualifiers for Mohammedan in 2020 and most recently played for Delhi FC in the Durand Cup and the I-League Qualifiers.
Dipanda Dicka has been playing in the I-League for the last six seasons and has featured for as many as five clubs during this time. The Cameroonian is set to participate in his seventh season of the I-League, this time for Aizawl FC. Dicka won the “Best Striker in I-League” award twice, in 2017 and 2018, while playing for Shillong Lajong and Mohun Bagan. The 32-year-old scored 21 goals for Bagan over two seasons before joining Punjab FC in 2019.
Dicka’s fine form continued in the following season, with him scoring 12 goals in 16 games. Playing for Real Kashmir FC in the last I-League season, the striker netted four goals and contributed with an assist in eight appearances. Dipanda very recently played for Delhi FC and emerged as the top scorer in the FD Senior Division with 10 goals in just seven games.
Dipanda Dicka and Willis Plaza are both highly experienced strikers who have consistently scored goals in the I-League. They are well aware of the Indian conditions and are expected to form a formidable strike force at Aizawl FC.
Aizawl FC also recently announced that Yan Law will return as coach for the upcoming season of the I-League. Law had coached Aizawl last season and has recently managed Biratnagar City FC and Delhi FC in the off-season. Aizawl finished seventh in the league last year with Malsawmtluanga as the top scorer with three goals. While they predominantly played with Indian forwards last year, things are expected change this season as they have signed two quality foreign strikers in Plaza and Dicka.
