Wungngayam Muirang: Who is Bengaluru FC’s latest signing?
From Thoi Singh to Udanta Singh, and now Wungngayam Muirang, Bengaluru FC have seen a number of manipur talents plying their trade for them over the past few seasons.
Born in the football crazy District of Ukhrul, Manipur, Muirang like all the kids, started playing at an early age. He began his career at Sports Authority of India, Imphal. After learning the basic skills in SAI, he was signed up by Shillong Lajong after a impressive trial in 2012. During his days in Shillong Lajong he represented India in the Bayern Munich Youth Cup in 2014.
In 2015 his footballing journey took him to a new culture and a new environment as he signed for Pune FC. During his stints with the Pune outfit he won numerous trophies like the Gold Cup in Goa and the Administration Cup in Chandigarh, PDFA.
He went on to represent FC Pune City after the closure of Pune FC.
He played a crucial role when FC Pune City won the historic IFA Shield Cup in 2017.
He was loaned out to Gokulam Kerala FC for the 2018-19 season and went on to make 5 appearances in his first professional season.
In the recently concluded Hero I-League, he made only 6 appearances for the Calicut based club as his season was hampered by an injury, forcing him to miss the first 5 matches of the league.
Muirang is a very versatile player who can operate as a Center Back, Left Back and also as a Central Defensive Midfielder. With the departure of Nishu kumar to KBFC, Muirang is possibly roped in to fill the vacant left-back spot.
Although Muirang has been in the India football circuit for two season now, he still has a lot of untapped potential.
A club with the stature of Bengaluru FC signing him mean only one thing–The boy has potential and he will only get better training alongside the best players in the league.
