Kerala Blasters FC has announced their latest foreign addition, Costa Nhamoinesu, a centre back player, Sparta Prague legend and a Zimbabwean International to their squad looking to foster their defence by filling the void left out by the fan favourite Sandesh Jhingan.
The player has an experience of playing under Kibu Vicuña previously when he was playing for KGHM Zagłębie Lubin where Kibu Vicuña was an assistant coach. He has also captained his side, Sparta Prague, in the Europa League and UEFA Champions League.
The player revealed his feelings on signing for Kerala Blasters FC – “Kerala Blasters has a fantastic plan for the season. I’m intrigued and fascinated to meet my new teammates, learn new cultures and do my best to help the club achieve their goals. I’m also very impressed by the vibe that is presented by the fans. I strongly believe that a club with such a vibrant, strong, energetic and passionate fan base deserves great performances on the pitch! I would like to thank the management for believing in me and my agent for familiarizing me with the culture around the club. Looking forward to learn more about Kerala and the club. One love, YELLOW ARMY!”, said Costa on signing for KBFC.
As an experienced centre back with the highest number of appearances at Sparta Prague as a foreign player, Costa Nhamoinesu will join the Kerala Blasters FC and will look to lead the back line and impart his expertise over the course of the season to the young Indian defenders.
The Harare native started his senior footballing career with the Zimbabwean side AmaZulu before jumping ship to Masvingo United. He then headed to Poland under loan in 2007 to KS Wisła Ustronianka after completing a season in the Zimbabwean Premier Soccer League.
In 2008, Costa spent the next two seasons on loan with the Polish side KGHM Zagłębie Lubin and his fervent and vivid performances earned him a permanent deal with the club. While at Lubin, with 136 appearances and 5 goals for the club, he became the top rated centre back in the Polish League.
In 2013, Costa moved to Sparta Prague in the Czech Republic, in seeking an exit from Poland. In his seven seasons at the club, the striking defender made over 200 appearances. Over the years, during the club’s Europa League and UEFA Champions League competitions, he has also captained his side. During his era at his club, he also showcased his strengths in the air by scoring 9 goals for his side.
