Phalguni in action for TRAU FC in the I-League

Phalguni had agreed terms with ATK Mohun Bagan which would see him don the green and maroon colors for the 2020/21 ISL season. However, after being called up for trials with the main squad prior to the AFC Cup games, the 26-year-old failed to impress the coaching staff and was not registered.

Other players on trial like Kiyan Nassiri, Abhishek Suryavanshi, and Ricky Shabong made the cut and traveled to the Maldives with the squad.

Phalguni had a stellar season with TRAU FC, captaining the side in their I-League campaign last year. The midfielder scored 3 goals and helped his team finish 5th in the first phase and 3rd in the championship stage, three points behind champions Gokulam Kerala.

The midfielder was also in talks with NorthEast United FC and a few other ISL Clubs. However, Sreenidi made an excellent offer and explained their desire to win the I-League title to Phalguni, who obliged.

Phalguni will be a major asset for Sreenidi FC in their inaugural I-League campaign. His release clause will also be eyed by many ISL clubs who will surely keep tabs on his performances for the Vizag-based club.
