#2 Raman Vijayan
In what was a redemption season for Mohun Bagan, winning the league after finishing bottom in the last season, Tamil Nadu born Raman Vijayan was the one to hog the limelight when he scored 10 goals in 18 matches for FC Kochin and pipped Chima Okorie by a goal to win the Golden Boot. A team that included IM Vijayan was led to glory by the other Vijayan, who became the second Indian Golden Boot winner in the NFL(now I-League) and held the record for 17 years until Sunil Chhetri won the award in 2014.
#1 Bhaichung Bhutia
In the 1996-97 season, Bhaichung Bhutia became the first Indian ever to win the Golden Boot in the NFL(now known as I-league). Playing for JCT Mills, Bhaichung helped his team top the group stages of the NFL, which consisted of title favorite clubs like East Bengal and Salgaocar. Under Sukhwinder Singh, Bhaichung scored 14 goals and eventually led JCT Mills to the NFL title. This included a fantastic hat-trick against Dempo in the final matchday to propel JCT to the trophy. Bhaichung also made history in the same season by scoring 5 goals in the 6-1 demolition of Mahindra FC.
