NorthEast United FC are set to sign Buanthanglun Samte from TRAU FC, IFTWC can confirm!
The youngster will prove to be a good signing for the Highlanders who are on a rebuild ahead of next season. Samte will add his energy, speed and added options in the full back position of coach Pedro Benali’ squad.
The 22-year-old left-back started his career with Pune FC reserves and the U18 side. Upon being promoted to the first team and a short stay there he signed for now defunct ISL club Pune City FC U18’s in 2016.
At the beginning of 2018 he was promoted to the Pune City FC’s B side, but he unfortunately never made it to the senior side. In July of the same year, he signed, for now defunct ATK FC B side.
After playing there for two years he was released upon the expiry of his contract. In 2021 he signed for a local Manipuri club LYGSEDA FC.
Upon impressing there he was signed by I-League side TRAU FC in July 2021. Ever since then, he has been part of their setup.
For NorthEast United FC, the club is trying to rebuild its team ahead of the upcoming season. Having appointed coach Juan Pedro Benali, the Highlanders want to make their mark this season and not emulate close to their horrible performances last season where they finished last in ISL with just one win.
Although the semi-finals finish in the Super Cup campaign under coach Floyd Pinto has shown them some promise for better performance. It’s something the club would hope to look up to next season in all three competitions.
