ISL – Odisha FC set to sign Puitea

-

Lalthathanga Khawlhring, better known as Puitea, has been signed on by Odisha FC after he spent a brief period with Mohun Bagan Super Giant. Earlier this year, Puitea was acquired by Mohun Bagan Super Giant from Kerala Blasters FC. Although he donned the Green and Maroon livery for a short while, it was at a critical juncture for the club as he was part of the victorious Mohun Bagan squad that won the 22/23 ISL playoffs.

Puitea

Puitea occupies the role of a central midfielder. His career began with him playing in the Mizoram Premier League under the colours of Bethlehem Vengthlang. He made his debut in the big leagues with the DSK Shivajians in the I-League. His performance got him noticed by the scouts of NorthEast United FC.

Puitea was signed on for the 17/18 season but he was yet to make his ISL debut as he was immediately loaned out to I-League team Aizawl FC. In the I-League, he played exceptionally well and he was brought back to NEUFC for the 18/19 season where made more than 20 appearances for the club. Despite the club’s overall lacklustre performance he played well and paved the way for his next transfer.

In 2020 he was signed on by Kerala Blasters FC. He played under their banner for 3 years and grew as a player. He made crucial passes and was dominant in the midfield on several occasions. He also scored a few goals during his tenure. His agility and skill with the ball have been proven on several occasions. His performance drew the attention of Mohun Bagan who signed him on towards the end of their 22/23 ISL campaign. He played in the playoffs and was a crucial factor in their victory effort.

However, Mohun Bagan Super Giant has a star-studded midfield. This would mean that Puitea would not have the opportunity to get the game time he deserves among the likes of Boumous and Anirudh Thapa. In Odisha FC, Puitea has the opportunity to prove and improve himself as a result of the competitive atmosphere that is to be produced with the inclusion of some great players.

Meanwhile, Odisha FC under Sergio Lobera is undergoing an overhaul. They are acquiring players with a wide range of fame and skill. There are famous players like Roy Krishna, Jahou and Mourtada Fall being signed on along with lesser-known but bright players such as Lalliansanga Renthlei and Puitea. It is interesting for fans and spectators to see what they do in the upcoming season.
