With the transfer window open and the signings taking place in full swing, SC East Bengal are set to sign 25-year old right back Ankit Mukherjee and 25-year old midfielder Sourav Das.
The Bengal born Mukherjee played for SC East Bengal at youth level after which he represented clubs like Techno Aryan FC and Mohammedan SC, all Kolkata based clubs. He then went on to become an ATK player in the 2018-19 Indian Super League season.
Mukherjee made 10 appearances for ATK throughout his stay at the club for a period of two seasons, before being signed by SC East Bengal in the month of January, 2021. He played for them till his contract expired in May of this year and has been signed again for yet another stint adorning the ‘red and gold’.
The 2020-21 ISL season with SC East Bengal saw Ankit play 12 matches in all, where he managed to make 61 tackles, 13 interceptions, 15 clearances and 12 blocks.
With Das however, it has been a different story altogether.
Das, a product of the TATA Football Academy joined arch rivals of East Bengal, Mohun Bagan AC in 2016. He had an overall successful run with the club after a not very exciting first couple of seasons with them. Sourav’s breakthrough moment of success, glory and jubilation with the Mariners came in the 2018-19 season as he helped them to their Calcutta Football League win.
SC East Bengal are signing their central midfielder who was on loan playing for Mumbai City FC last ISL season, on a permanent deal.
Sourav Das has a passing accuracy of 71.06%. He made 8 tackles, 7 interceptions and 5 clearances last season in the Indian Super League.
The two players await a new and promising season with SC East Bengal, the club whose participation in this season’s Indian Super League looked unsure till a few days back.
