Chhinga Veng FC – Mizoram
Aizawl is known for producing good football clubs and Chhinga Veng FC is no exception to that. Chhinga Veng FC was established in 1985. Chhinga Veng won the Independence Day tournament, the oldest football cup tournament in Mizoram in 2017. In the same year, they also tasted success by winning Mizoram Premier League by defeating their rival Aizawl FC who were I-league champion back then. Chhinga Veng FC has already made their appearances in national leagues when they played in I league 2nd Division in 2018-19 season. However, their recent decline in form saw them bidding out of this prestigious tournament.
As I league 2nd Division will start soon Chhinga Veng FC can definitely put forward a challenge in the prestigious competition.
Shillong Lajong – Meghalaya
Shillong Lajong is known for producing top Indian footballers. Over the last few years, the club proved itself as a major football pipeline for other Indian Super League clubs. However, Shillong Lajong who once competed regularly in the I league saw their name getting removed from the tournament due to their poor performances. Despite their poor performances, the club has a proper pool of young talents who are in need of exposure.
Shillong Lajong now regularly plays in Shillong Premier League. The club which was founded in 1983 with the motto of reviving the lost footballing glory of Meghalaya can rise once again from their downfall by competing in I league 2nd Division.
