The 26-year-old was in radar for a year and a transfer attempt was also denied by his former club. Glan has now signed a deal with the Kolkata Giants.
After getting the papers penned with high profile names like Tiri and Bradden Inman, Antonio Habas has turned his head towards recruiting some Indian prospects. In this manner, the next man to wear green and maroon is going to be Indian midfielder Glan Martins.
The 26-year-old joining the merged franchise was on news from late March, however the deal is being signed now. As the Kolkata giants will step into a new season for defending the title, they have secured the services of Martins on a two-year-deal.
The young attacking midfielder had the caps on 14 times for Churchill Brothers during 2019-20 I-League season while not being able to get into the scoresheet ever. But his accurate long range passes and style of building up the game brought him to the sight of ATKMB. His ‘Man of the Match’ performance against arch rival East Bengal made the equation even more impressive. Reports suggest that they tried to sign Glan during winter for ₹15 lakhs but due to some disagreements they had to wait.
Glan began his journey with SESA FA and then with the academy of Sporting Clube de Goa where he also made 13 senior team appearances within 2015-19. Later he joined Churchill Brothers where he started making news. Now at the Kolkata based outfit, Martins will share the dressing room with the likes of Pranoy Halder and Jayesh Rane, where he would have to work relentlessly to earn a regular place in the lineup.
Now it will be interesting to see how the young Indian rises above all odds to shine in the city of joy and how far he is going to help gaffer Habas in his title defence campaign.
