Kerala Blasters is set to complete the signing of Alvaro Vazquez from Sporting Gijon, IFTWC can confirm. Vazquez was wanted by other ISL clubs as well but Kerala Blasters was always leading the race, as reported before.
Hailing from the famed Spanish academies, Vazquez left his boyhood club Espanyol in 2012 after two seasons in La Liga to join Getafe. He scored 19 goals during the three seasons he spent at the club. His stint at Getafe included a loan move to Swansea City in the Premier League where he featured in 12 matches for The Swans. His second stint in La Liga with Espanyol was followed by two loans at Segunda Divison sides Gimnastic and Zaragoza. Sporting Gijon subsequently signed the 30-year-old after he hit 10 goals for Zaragoza. However, the player failed to live up to expectations at Gijon as he was loaned out to Sabdell earlier this year. The Spaniard is not in Gijon’s plans this year and now finds himself on his way to India.
Having played in the La Liga for many years as well as the Premier League, Kerala Blasters may have found a potential star in their midst. There is no doubt that Alvaro Vazquez is going to be one of the players to watch out for in the upcoming Indian Super League.
Alvaro Vazquez and Jorge Pereyra Diaz will combine upfront for Kerala Blasters as the team continues to add firepower in the attacking department. Meanwhile, the club also completed the signings of midfielder Adrian Luna and defender Enes Sipovic earlier this month. The signing of Vazquez brings Kerala Blasters’ total number of foreigners in the squad to four. In order to break their trophy drought, the club has been active in the transfer market with a different approach to signings than in previous years.
