In the inaugural season of the Indian Super League, the Spaniard was crucial for the Highlanders. The former Malaga academy graduate played 12 matches for the club that season where he scored four goals. He became the first-ever goalscorer in the club’s history when he scored North East United FC’s first-ever goal against Kerala Blasters in their first-ever match in Indian Super League. However, despite his goals, the club ended the inaugural Indian Super League season on a disappointing note as they finished the table in the bottom position. Koke’s performances during that season was outstanding, and at one stage, he became favorite among the Highlander fans.
